Good things take time — and ours has been a long time coming.
Our family's roots in natural living go back to 1977 and the early days of Canada's natural health movement, right here in Calgary. Helping people find cleaner, simpler alternatives to what filled most store shelves has been part of who we are for nearly fifty years. Making soap came a little later: in 2003, that same belief in doing things the natural way led the family to start crafting bars by hand — and more than two decades on, we still are.
Today, that story is ours to carry on. We're the second generation now — and that's our family in the photo, the people behind every batch. The recipes, the hands-on care, and the belief that started it all haven't changed; we're just the ones keeping it going.
It's all still made the same way: real plant-based oils, real botanicals, real essential oils, in small batches in Calgary. Over the years we've brought our family of soaps together under one honest name — Sensible Co. — but the people and the care behind every bar are the same as they've always been.
The idea was simple from the start. So many soaps on store shelves are packed with synthetic fragrances, harsh detergents, and ingredients you can't pronounce. We wanted something cleaner, simpler, and fairly priced — something that actually made sense.
The Sensible Way
Every bar we make is crafted using the traditional cold-process method — a slower, hands-on way of making soap that keeps the natural goodness of each ingredient intact. No shortcuts, no fillers, no synthetic foaming agents. Just plant-based oils, botanicals, and pure essential oils, blended and poured by hand.
We think what you put on your skin should be as honest as what you put on your table. That's why everything we make starts with natural, plant-based ingredients — thoughtfully chosen and made the simple way.
Caring for People and Planet
Being sensible means thinking past today. We try to do right at every step — in the ingredients we choose, the way we make things, and the packaging we use to get them to you. Looking after yourself and looking after the planet have never felt like two different things to us.
And as a proudly Canadian, Calgary-made brand, we love that what we make stays close to home. Every product that leaves our hands is made with intention, with care, and with you in mind.
