Most of our bars are scented with essential oils and nothing else. Four of them use natural fragrance instead. Here's why.
Most bars: essential oils only
Lavender, Peppermint, Lemongrass, Tea Tree, Grapefruit, Orange Cinnamon, Patchouli and the rest of our essential oil bars get their scent from essential oils only. Our Unscented and Activated Charcoal bars have no scent added at all.
The four natural fragrance bars
- Coconut Lime
- Olive Leaf & Citrus
- Cedarwood Vanilla
- Orange Blossom Mylk
Why not essential oils for these?
Some scents simply don't exist as an essential oil, or don't hold up in cold process soap.
- Coconut doesn't come as an essential oil. Coconut oil itself has almost no smell once it's made into soap.
- Vanilla isn't an essential oil either, and the vanilla extracts that do exist tend to fade or discolour in soap.
- "Mylk" and creamy notes aren't something you can press or distil from a plant.
- Delicate florals like orange blossom are very costly as true essential oils, and much of the scent can fade during the soap-making process.
To get these scents into a bar that still smells good weeks later, we use natural fragrance oils made for soap.
What "natural fragrance" means here
Our supplier sells these as natural fragrance oils, and we list them on every label as "Natural Fragrance / Parfum naturel". We don't use synthetic fragrance oils in any Sensible bar.
If you'd rather stick to essential oils only, any of our other scented bars are a good fit. If you'd rather skip scent completely, try Unscented.
